What are the benefits of Massage Therapy?

Someone recently asked me, “What are some of the benefits of massage therapy?”  There are so many benefits, and I believe it is different for every person, every situation and even every mood. A massage client who is an athlete might tell you it helps muscles prepare for exercise and recover after extreme exertion. A busy executive who receives monthly massages might say it helps with stress, anxiety and mental focus. Then there is the person who works with tools and climbs ladders who might tell you massage helps with repetitive use injuries and knee pain. Of course there is always the person who will tell you it just feels good.

My favorite part about getting a massage, aside from the documented benefits, is the time out that is just for me. It is a time to let go and drift off into that wonderful massage dream state as the massage therapist does the work that needs to be done. Awareness comes over me as I realize where my body is holding tension and stress. This is when I can breathe and release the cares and worries that are not serving me. Massage therapy nurtures my body and soul and reminds me to slow down. I always feel full of joy and gratitude after a massage.

Be Well Massage serves clients from various backgrounds. Every client chooses how often to come in for a massage, how long the session will be, and what areas of the body need the most attention on that day. Each massage is different from the next, which means the benefit of each massage will be different. Most of our clients have repeating massage appointments because they see a benefit in receiving massage on a regular basis as part of their wellness routine. Those clients who choose to come in less frequently may see a benefit in using massage therapy as a special treat or reward. No matter what the reason, massage should always feel good! How would you answer the question? Maybe it is time for a massage…
